"Let's Go" -President Lindsey
Boa tarde meus queridos,
I kind of left you all on a cliffhanger at the end of my last email, and it turns out that I really do have some exciting news for you all (more that I was expecting to talk about, in fact). I'll talk about the biggest miracles we had this week and then get to these exciting news as quickly as possible.
First of all, it's miracle time.
This week we had the opportunity to baptize two of Yan's friends (do you remember the young man we baptized the same day as Benedita?): Bruno and Warlyson. Bruno we had met last week while walking down the street and stopping to talk to Yan and Warlyson. We talked about the Stake Conference that would happen in São Luís, and he wanted to go as well. Long story short, he loved the messages there and wanted to become a member of the Church as well, so we helped him out with that.
Warlyson we had met shortly after meeting Yan (the two are best friends). He had shown interest in being baptized before and enjoyed the messages that we would share at Yan's house. He would accept baptismal dates but then never show up to church the day we had marked his baptism for. We had already talked to his mother, and while she did not show any interest in learning more about our message, she said she had no problem with letting him be baptized. We sat down with her at one point and left message with her where the Spirit was incredibly present. She said she had believed we received a salary for what we did and that her son would be forced to serve a mission if he were to be baptized, as well as have to live a ridiculously rigid lifestyle. She ended up reading the Book of Mormon later and said she knows that our message is true. We are now trying to help her get to church.
After the zone conference that we had last week, I had an interview with President Lindsey. Last week, following what I have no doubt was a personal revelation, we had taken some time to look for a house in which we would live on the second floor and do our sacrament meetings on the ground floor. I got in contact with our mission's financial secretary to find out that our current contract is expiring on our current house and its rent. We managed to find a two story house in a good location (an old fruit store/house) for a lower price. During the interview with President Lindsey I shot the idea to him and showed some photos, to which he replied "let's go... let's do it." Long story short, we are going to have a recent convert paint it up this week and will do our sacrament meeting there on Sunday.
After that interview, President and Sister Lindsey also agreed to swing by a city that is about 10 minutes from Itapecuru - a city that is on the way from São Luís to Teresina - for lunch so that they could meet Raimundo Nonato and Benedita, as the surgery he had a few months ago does not allow him to travel and Benedita had gotten very ill last Sunday. It was such an incredible experience to see those two talk each other's ear off. President Lindsey said, "this is the beginning of an eternal friendship."
One last thing... we had transfers today, and I found out that I will continue to serve in Itapecuru, but not with Elder Green. He will be transferred to a different city and I will now be companions with Elder Pollock, an assistant... because now I am one of the Assistants to the President as well.
