"Embrace The Mush"

Olá pessoal,

***Here's the real one***

What a quick, exciting, week!

Like always, I will start off with the highlight. Only this week it was highlights with an "s"!

We had another baptism! Rachael! She was baptized just last night and confirmed with the gift of the Holy Ghost. She has such a sweet testimony and has a way of praying that is so humble and personal. I was so very excited for her!

Another highlight: General Conference! What an incredible opportunity we have every 6 months to listen to the words of the Lord's prophet, apostles, and other leaders of His Restored Church about topics that are so different yet all focused on Him. The world of commotion we live in will not become any less noisy any time soon. However, if we focus our lives on Jesus Christ and utilize His Atonement which he has already endured for us,  we will have His rock, His strength, as our foundation: a foundation that CANNOT fail.

I am so humbled, excited, and awestricken that Cody is going to have a temple!!! Every time I think about it I about burst into tears! I can't stop thinking about where it will be, what it will look like, and how soon I'll be able to go! HOLINESS TO THE LORD. THE HOUSE OF THE LORD.

This morning, I was able to hike Mount Timpanogos for the first time! What a great opportunity! There were times that made me feel like I was back in the Bighorns (except for when I looked down on Provo, Orem, and practically all of the Utah Valley up to Salt Lake City; that was a bit different). I was so grateful for Brother Seth Meyer who agreed to go up with us just last night! He picked us up at 5 this morning, drove us to the trailhead, and did the whole 14+ miles with us! I think I was able to convince him to come check out the Bighorns when he gets the chance. I've said it before, and I'llsay it again: there are few places where I feel closer to my Father in Heaven than the top of a mountain.

Here's a thought for you: the first 10-30 minutes of hiking made my calves turn to stone. I didn't know how on earth I would be able to summit. They burned, ached, and were difficult to pick up each step. The more patience I had and the longer I was willing to work, however, the easier it became. Suddenly, I was able to keep a great pace going consistently uphill without thinking I was going to collapse. I learned to "love the struggle" and find joy in that "labor of love" (for the mountains); as Brother Meyer said about going from the point where your calves go from feeling like rocks to mush: "embrace the mush."

I think this concept can be compared to the gospel of Jesus Christ. What we are asked to do as His disciples is not easy; in fact, it is far from it. We may harden our hearts and try to continue in our own stubborn ways, being the natural, imperfect, beings that we are, but it is only when we soften ourselves and "embrace the mush" that Christ will be able to lead us and our neighbors to follow Him, press forward with faith, and endure to the end.

If we strive to do that in all times and in all places, the promise is a whole lot sweeter than a great view; it will be eternal life with our Heavenly Father and His Son.

I love all of you so much and want to hear how life is treating you! I'm terrible at responding, but I'll do my best!

Eu amo vocês,
Elder Lindsay
