"Lucas Has Nothing To Do With Wellison"

Bomest of dias y'all,

After a slight pause I'm back again with another short update from the Lord's vineyard here in the city of Itapecuru-Mirim do Maranhão.

The week started off with meetings at the mission office in Teresina with the other ZLs. We had some great trainings with the assistents as well as President and Sister Lindsey. It's always great to get some traveling in and see missionaries that I haven't seen in a while.

We had an in-person district council afterward in São Luis which was pretty enjoyable. It is funny how rare we see the other missionaries in our own zone.

Our friend Lucas was baptized yesterday! Actually, Wellison was baptized. This was a runny little hiccup from this week.

We had met Lucas a while ago at the Popular Restaurant here in town (the one with $0.20 lunch) and he had come up to talk with us several times. The most recent time we gave him a Book of Mormon and set up a time to share a message. When we got there two days later he had read from the beginning until halfway through Alma (roughly halfway through the book). We talked about the Restauration, continued sharing messages, he went to church a few times and was baptized yesterday... twice.

While everyone who knows him calls him "Lucas," it turns out his real name is Wellison. His baptism after church was amazing, but we definitely said his name as "Lucas" in the confirmation and baptism. It wasn't until later that day when we filled the baptismal form out that we discovered his real name is Wellison and Lucas is just a nickname. We had to run over to a member's house and quickly re-realize the baptism in a water bucket they had out back saying the correct name this time. Luckily this kid's amazing and had no doubts or concerns. He's already excited to prepare the sacrament next Sunday.

Love you all and hope you're doing well! Shoot me an email if you get the chance!

P.S. Do you recognize who we're eating lunch with in this photo down below?
