"Ride The Plane To São Luis With Us!" - Michele Koch

Bom dia meus queridos,

What a quick, crazy, week down here in the MBT. By far one of the craziest, if not the craziest, that I've had as a missionary up to this point.

Monday was normal; we taught the folks who had visited the church and made some contacts with other folks after our preparation day activities ("activities" is just a fancy way of saying buying groceries and laying around the house to rest). We also found out that as part of the Mission Tour that we would have with Élder Koch, all of the zone leaders would be going down to Teresina to participate in a leadership council with him on Wednesday.

Tuesday, Élder Cesar and I ended up having to leave our area right after lunch as it was a holiday and the bus hours were all wacky. That meant that we had to wait in São Luis from around 4:30 p.m. until our bus left at 11 for Teresina.

Wednesday we pulled into town around 6:00 a.m. and went to the "casa de apoio" to get showered up and primped for the meeting (that in all actuality didn't start until 3:00 p.m.). The meeting was actually amazing. We learned how to use more doctrine and less of our own opinions while instructing our zones. Élder Koch is a no-nonsense kind of guy who has spent a lot of time with the apostles, so I basically spent the whole meeting just writing down all kinds of notes as fast as I could manage. After the meeting, he asked if we would be staying in Teresina to participate in the session of the conference there, to which we said no as we had expected to work in our area on Thursday. Come to find out he wanted us to participate through technology and that the mission needed us to get a chapel in São Luís ready for the second session, so... SURPRISE EXCHANGES! We stayed in São Luis Thursday night after arranging everything for Friday.

Friday was the day of the conference! We snagged some McDonald's (as that doesn't exist here in Itapecuru-Mirim) before heading over to the chapel for me to be able to lead our two-hour, right-before-the-general-authority-pulls-in, rehearsal of the musical piece many had never seen. Below is a recording of one of our practice runs, so feel free to check it out!

The Mission Tour itself was pretty incredible. Again I was just busy taking down as many notes as I could manage the whole time that Élder Koch was talking. He explained the importance of converting ourselves, our companions, our families, the ward members, and then the folks that we teach. He talked about the importance of making specific promises as directed by the Holy Spirit, among many other incredible topics. It was a wonderful experience of learning information and receiving personal revelation as well.

Friday night we also spent in São Luis in the home of my former companion Élder Braga (the guy that I spent a week with when I was living in Teresina).

Saturday and Sunday we just hit the road working, and while we were not able to help anyone be baptized this weekend, we've got several people on date for the next few weeks, which Élder Martinez and I are very happy about!

"Verily I say unto you, he that is ordained of me and sent forth to preach the word of truth by the Comforter, in the Spirit of truth, doth he preach it by the Spirit of truth or some other way?

That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day."

Doctrine and Covenants 50:17, 24

Loved this scripture that Élder Koch shared with us because it really shows that we can be lead by the spirit 24 hours a day. We really can see the hand of God in anything that has light, goodness, and truth if we just look for it. We can live out lives in such a way that others can recognize this through us. What an incredible principle that is!

Sure love and appreciate you all! Hope life's been treating you well and that you all are happy and healthy! Let me know how you're doing! I'm doing audio clips now so I've been getting a lot better at responding!
