"Batismo No Rio... Respeita Pai" -Élder Martinez

Well hey there,

Guess it's already been another week down here in the Itapecuru-Mirim, Maranhão group. We have a better idea of what in the world is going on here, so we're getting pretty excited about what the future will bring here.

Some of the folks that visited church last week wanted to follow Christ's example and be baptized, something that I thought pretty incredible as we just arrived in this area some ten days ago.

Last week our sacrament meeting only had some 18 people, 4 of whom were us missionaries and 9 the folks who came with us to visit the meeting. Yesterday, there were over 31 people who participated!

That was really something special as we had to change the location of the meeting at the last minute.

We got a call Saturday morning...

"Oh yeah, so there's going to be a test taking place in the schoolhouse so we're not going to be able to let you use it for your meeting tomorrow."

So that basically meant we spent all of Saturday morning running around the city looking for a place to hold our sacranent meeting. We went to the town hall, school district building, and various other government buildings to no avail (as is was the weekend before yet another holiday down here).

We went to a school that was being renovated and asked the construction workers if they knew who we could get into contact with to see if we could use it. They passed us the number of the school's director who said we could not use the school as it did not have working bathrooms, fans, etc., but that we could use the temporary location that the students from the school were using to hold their classes.

This week we will be having something called a "Mission Tour" with Élder Koch of the Seventy. I will be traveling to Teresina tomorrow to participate in a meeting that will happen just with him and the Zone Leaders, heading back to Itapecuru for one day to work, and then to São Luis for the actual session of the Mission Tour.

We are going to be performing a musical number for this leader and his wife, but as the mission is so big we've never been able to rehearse it all together. Usually Sister Lindsey would be in charge of figuring that out as she has been a musical director for years, but she and President will be on a plane with Élder Koch until an hour before the conference, so there will be no time for her to rehearse it with us.

So she gave me a call...

Long story short, I will be in charge of our rehearsal that we will be happening two hours before the conference and getting the piece sounding good for the General Authority, so yeah... no pressure there.

Love you all and just want to testify of the power of prayer! We put our names of the temple prayer roll before looking for a place to do our sacrament meeting and there's no doubt in my mind that that made a world of a difference in our being able to find that location.

The Lord hears, loves, and answers us!

Send some prayers my way that my inner John Williams came come out this weekend!

Tchau y'all,
Élder Lindsay
