"I Knew He'd Be Ticked" -Elder Lucas
Good afternoon y'all!
Happy 2023 for all of you! I can hardly believe we're already here! 2022 was the first year in my life that I did not once set foot in Big Wonderful Wyoming, see family face to face, or pass a day without wearing a white shirt, tie and a name tag with my Savior's name on it. While it was by no means easy - full of highs and lows, peaks and valleys, and many successes and failures - it was probably the most incredible year I've had in my life so far.
There's definitely been a lot of growth that's happened eith me since 01.01.2022.
The highlight this week was by far getting to baptize Ivonete: one of the most incredible people I've met so far on my mission. She had an unwaverable desire to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and be baptized before she even met us thanks to Antônia and Glaucy conversing with her. She accepted every lesson without hesitation and even bought a white dress because she thought she would need it for yesterday!
The adversary tried everything to take her off of this path: from friends trying to convince her that she wasn't ready to moto taxi drivers being drunk at 8:30 a.m. Christmas Day, to a downed tree on the path to the river. She said this was what her heart was set on, though, and she didn't let anything stop her.
Once again, as Elder Romero would say: she is definitely one of the Lord's "giga-elect."
Ironically enough, we're still trying to help Antônia and Glaucya prepare for baptism; they've just got some things to give up before that point. Please keep them (and us) in your prayers if you would.
We did a quick division in my old home, Tutoia, this week as well with my old companion, Élder Marinez, and his companion Élder Oliver. I saw several of my recent converts and some of the members that were a huge part of my life for those 5 months that I was there. We also taught and marked some dares with some folks, so that was a pretty great (albeit tiring) experience.
I was asleep for the New Years countdown, so nothing all that exciting there.
I'm in Teresina right now because of a leadership council meeting that we had today.
Why does the subject say I was ticked? We tried to do another dinner for New Years, but our water had run out and some drunk people had parked a truck filled with huge speakers and full blast in the front of our house playing very less-than-mediocre music. Hence why I was asleep for the countdown, haha.
Sure love all of you (as you all know) and hope you're all doing great! We are staring a Sunday School class, and this week we'll be reading from Matthew 1 and Luke 1. If anyone has any thoughts from those chapters or any favorite verses, please let me know! No matter from what religious background you may be! I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Take care and have a wonderful week!
