"Bro" -Bishop Melazzo
Bom dia pessoal,
This is going to be a interesting one for me to write; this past week has gone by so fast, and yesterday I was told some information that had not been expected. I'll also take this opportunity to apologize for not taking any pictures of myself. I've got to start thinking about that throughout the week!
Last Monday, the district went out to Thanksgiving Point again, this time to go to the driving range and seeing some golf clubs. I used my golf pants for (believe it or not) golf for the first time and naturally had to wear my sweater vest and blue collared shirt to fit the part. I am, after all, part Scottish, so golfing should practically be a religious experience for me.
To do an early celebration of Elder Romero's departure to Portugal, we visited Braza Grill, a Brazilian steakhouse just like Rodizio or Tucanos. There are a lot of Brazilians that work there, and it was really cool to talk to the wait staff in Portuguese about where they're from and what home is like. We went up to the manager afterward and had a quick conversation thanking them.
The week itself consisted of contacting lots of folks (mainly English-speakers) just to ask if they could be on the lookout for anyone that speaks Portuguese. Especially around this time of the year, it can be difficult to be in a new country where an unfamiliar language is spoken and the culture is so different. If we can get in contact with those families, we can introduce them to the Portuguese-speaking community that exists within the church down here and give them a family they can be a part of!
With one of these contacts, we learned about a Brazilian family in our area that we had not known about before! We're going to have to find a time to reach out, see if they would be interesting in learning more, or would want to get to know the other Brazilian families that live around here!
Yesterday, after a full day of meetings, church, dinner, and a lesson (woohoo!), we got a call from President Evanson's assistants. It was in regards to transfer news, and to be honest, it was not what I had been expecting. Turns out that instead of staying in the Portuguese North Area and getting a Spanish-speaking companion, I will be going down to Orem, right on the edge of the mission, speaking English, and riding a bike. Not what I was expecting at all, but I have been so grateful for this opportunity to learn about Brazilian culture, speak the language in‐person with native speakers, and see myself grow in my ability to understand and speak Portuguese. This has been such an incredible testimony builder for me of the Gift of Tongues and I know hope and pray I will be able to help change the life of someone down in Orem.
"I shall... [exhort] all men to come unto God, the Holy One of Israel, and believe in prophesying, and in revelations, and in the ministering of angels, and in the gift of speaking with tongues, and in the gift of interpreting languages, and in all things which are good; for there is nothing which is good save it comes from the Lord: and that which is evil cometh from the devil."
Omni 1:25
Hope you all had a great week! I look forward to hearing how life's been treating you and what's new! If you would, please keep praying for that visa to come ASAP. I talked to an Elder yesterday who is doing home MTC right now and said his visa came within a month, so hopefully I have a similar timeframe! Love you all and hope you have a great week!
Com amor,
Élder Lindsay
1. Two Brazillian boys showed me how to play Beyblades this past week at a dinner appointment!
