The Last August '21 Update
Olá Irmãos e Irmãs,
What a quick week! It seems like I just got done writing my last update. I guess the time flying by just means that I'm out here having fun.
We got a new instructor, Irmão Campos, at the beginning of the week because Irmão Silva was able to get sealed over the weekend and will also now begin a new job! I'm so excited for him but also obviously sad to see him go. Irmão Campos is an incredible man, though, and I'm happy to have him as an instructor!
You know how last week I was making Livin' on a Prayer references? You all won't believe this, but Irmão Campos is a huge Bon Jovi fan!... I know! Now you know why I like him so much. The group had a performance down in Brazil that he attended and bought a cup from. He showed me the cup and we had a good little discussion - in Portuguese, of course - about some of their greatest hits.
"Nevertheless, because those miracles were worked by small means it did show unto them marvelous works."
I liked this verse that I found this week - Alma 37:41 - because it showed me that the "marvelous works" in our lives are done by "small means." Whether it be in a positive or negative direction, those "small means" grow to become something "marvelous."
For me, right now, I think my "small means" are my increases in Portuguese and my testimony. The more I keep working steadily in the right direction, the stronger my ability to invite the Spirit will become.
I'd like to invite all of you to think about those "small means" in your life right now - good or bad.
What direction are those "small means" taking you in right now? If they're not taking you in the right direction, don't worry!
Ether 12:27 (My favorite scripture):
"And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them."
Maybe you are hoping for a "marvelous work" and think that "great means" are necessary in order to accomplish that. Don't worry! They don't have to be!
Alma 37:6 (Alma 37: Another chapter I highly recommend taking a look at):
"Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise."
Have a great week! I look forward to hearing from y'all!
Sinceramente,
Elder Lindsay
